It was a couple of weeks ago, but still fresh in my mind… Chicago Whisky Fest was a lot of fun thanks in part to my friend meeting me for the event, and the fact that I got to spend time with my brother, Robert, and my sister-in-law, Susan. On top of that, the other guys at Longman & Eagle allowed us to go to Whisky Fest and even got me in to a smaller event the night before at Binny’s, a Chicago liquor store.
I’d not been to Whisky Fest before, but found out it’s basically a trade show for whisky distillers from all over the world. The even was at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Chicago, and the food was actually pretty good for an event like this, from roast beef sandwiches to poached salmon, cheeses of all kinds to chocolate brownies (which go great with scotch!).
But the night before, Binny’s held a smaller version, with several of the same vendors, at one of their stores in town. It was invitation only, so thank you, Robert, for getting me invited! The event was basically tables set up all around the store. And one of the good things about the event was that I got to try two whiskies that I have but haven’t opened yet, to find out they’re pretty good drams, MacKinlay’s Rare Old Highland Malt, and Bruichladdich’s Octomore.
We started on Thursday at Longman & Eagle before heading to Binny’s, having a Radler at the bar.
Then off to Binny’s. I’ll leave you with photos of the event, with my next post on the actual Whisky Fest!
