Sometimes simple is better, and we all have to think about what we’re eating now and then. Thanks to my wife, my standard breakfast has become one of those simply better things… Oatmeal.
And when I say oatmeal, I’m not talking about those packets of quickly nuked, precooked oats with lots of extra stuff like peaches and cream flavoring added. Not only is all the nutrition pretty well stripped out of the oatmeal, but the added stuff isn’t good for you, either.
Oatmeal is just too easy to fix to not do it the right way, with whole oats. All we do is boil 1 3/4 cups of skim milk, then add in a cup of oats and cook for 5 minutes (for 2 servings, right off the package). How tough is that? Can you work a timer? If so, this is easy, and cheap!
Instead of accepting all the sugar and junk added to the packets, I add my own, but I have control over it that way. Cinnamon, one of my favorite tastes in the world, along with a bit of brown sugar, or demarara sugar with a touch of molasses, and I’m happy with this as a breakfast!
A simple post for a simply good breakfast!

I got your cookies … mailing them today!
Oh … I LOVE me some oatmeal. I need to make some for the girls (hahahahahahahahaha – it’s worth a try I guess).
Aye, ye canny beat a gid bowl of porridge, but the traditional way, with salt!
Melissa, oatmeal can be dressed up a bit to entice youngsters… I think!
Dave, thanks for the visit… I have to say I’ve never had oatmeal with salt, but I’m willing to try it…. maybe.
Also, Melissa, I can’t thank you enough; it’s very kind of you to send us cookies! I can just imagine that I have to add another stop to every Pittsburgh trip!
