Robert from White Trash BBQ was kind enough to ask me to write a guest blog entry on his blog. The entry will be posted this Wednesday, March 15 (Beware the Ides of March!) on the White Trash BBQ website.
CORRECTION: The guest blog on White Trash BBQ will be on March 22!
I’m also thinking of doing a guest blog spot, but I’m interested to see if anyone has interest in helping out, or even in just reading, a guest entry by barbecue competitors aimed at giving tips to new teams or those thinking about competing. If you’d like to see something like that, leave me a comment. If you’d like to help, either comment or email me!

I think a guest blog spot would be interesting. A big part of barbecue is afterall, about sharing. (ideas and food!)
This year I have started a “Guest Pit Boss” feature for recipes on my site and have gotten a lot of good feedback.

I’m hoping to get more volunteers from people that have competed. I have one volunteer so far, and I’m hoping to do my first entry this next week. I may email some others I know and ask them for a paragraph or so of advice for new teams to post. Hopefully, Competition 101 will catch on, and I’ll get people offering more advice!
I think a guest columnist from time is an asset to any web site, especially barbecue. There truly is not one-and-only way to prepare barbecue as evidenced by the abundance of commercial bbq restaurants, rubs, sauces, and books on the subject. There are at least 40 different brands of cookers, not including all the one of a kind custom-fabricated cookers made by the mechanically inclined (that leaves me out). I think that’s what keeps bbq fun. Variety, anyone can do it, and there are very, very few barriers to entry for the bbq novice. All it takes is a desire and a willingness to learn!
Keep up the good work.
Brian,
I’m with you on the not being mechanically inclined! I’m also thinking of doing a set of links to resources for newbies… and having read your stuff recently, you’ve got a lot of great info for people starting out.
Are you going to Carmel again this year? If so, you’re invited to stop by to enjoy a beverage of your choice… or I’ll bring it by your place!
I’ll see you in Carmel.
I’ve got to get some quality practice in over the course of the next few weeks to get ready.
